Classical music and improvisation
Krista Pyykönen is a classically trained violinist educated to master the traditional violin, chamber music and orchestra repertoire. Besides classical music Krista is performing free-tonal and tonal as well as person-centred improvisation with varying ensembles mostly in healthcare contexts. Krista has also worked with non-classical ensembles in different string sections and recorded film music and rock/pop in studio sessions. Krista is playing a 1894-built French Collin-Mezin concert violin with a beautifully balanced combination of power and wooden softness.
Krista Pyykönen (1986), started her violin studies in Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki, Finland in 1992. She studied at Espoo Music Institute until 2006, after which she started her professional studies at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. While studying classical music education in Metropolia, she studied the violin and violin pedagogic with lecturer Seppo Reinikainen, worked actively as a chamber musician in string ensembles and as an orchestra musician.
Krista graduated from Metropolia in December 2010 as a classical music educator and violinist. After that she started her Music Master studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH). Krista has also participated NAIP European Master of Music- courses in the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, on the island of Schiermonnikoog in Northern Holland and in Isafjordur, Iceland.
